MIFB 2009
Excerpts from Distinguished Ministers' Message
YAB DATO' SRI MOHD. NAJIB BIN TUN HAJI ABDUL RAZAK
Prime Minister of Malaysia

"The development of the agriculture and agro-based industry and the elevation of biotechnology represent an important component of our national economic agenda, which will not only generate new source of income, but also take business and commerce beyond our local front.
By bringing together F & B fraternity from domestic front and overseas, MIFB certainly augurs well for the industry to put Malaysia on the world map as a high quality food manufacturing location with huge opportunities and centre of excellence for halal food products."

YB DATO' HAJI NOH BIN OMAR
Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry

"This event is indeed timely given the Malaysian Government's agenda to develop agriculture as a growth engine, in which the food and beverage industry plays a pivotal role. In a push to help promote this industry, the Government welcomes participation from all sectors, the private sector in particular.
In this context, I am especially encouraged by events such as MIFB 2009. This gathering of business and professionals from all levels of the food and beverage industry, will assist Malaysia in its aim of becoming more self reliant and certainly more technologically adept with regard to the production and supply of food and its associated services."

YB TAN SRI BERNARD GILUK DOMPOK
Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities

"The Ministry of Plantation Industries and Commodities, which has been tasked with the responsibility of overseeing the development of the plantation and commodity sector, is also involved in promoting and marketing of value-added commodities, particularly semi-processed and processed downstream products. Thus, through trade fairs and conferences such as this, we are able to create an avenue to establish a marketing channel as well as generating the necessary awareness on the initiatives undertaken by the Ministry to enhance the development of commodity-based products such as palm oil, rubber, cocoa and pepper.
I hoped that at this unified gathering of agro-bio experts and professionals, everyone will take the opportunity to further grow and develop through constructive information exchange."

YB DATUK PETER CHIN FAH KUI
Minister of Energy, Green Technology and Water

"Seeing that Agriculture, with food and beverage industry being its sub-sector, has long been regarded a hub of the green movement, it is my earnest hope that F & B producers can explore into the adoption of green technologies in their production in order to help saving water and energy, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and protecting local ecosystems, while reducing costs and increasing productivity.
It is also encouraging to note that a big part of MIFB is dedicated to new technologies which make food production and its related process more environmentally friendly as well as ecologically more sustainable, and I hope this trend will continue at MIFB 2009, with more and more companies making the move towards greener technology and more environmentally conscious offerings."

YB DATO' MUSTAPA BIN MOHAMED
Minister of International Trade and Industry

"The world economy today is facing numerous challenges that are putting the multilateral trading system under intense pressure. However, I believe Malaysia is in a position to traverse this difficult period, especially if we are able to increase and develop new markets for our food trade, products and services. As such, I see MIFB 2009 contribution in promoting Malaysian food and beverage technology, products and services to the rest of the world."

YB DATO' SRI DR NG YEN YEN
Minister of Tourism

"As Malaysia plays host to all our foreign guests, I hope that during your stay here, you will not only manage to savour the warm Malaysian hospitality, but also take time to discover the charm, beauty and diversity of Malaysia which represents the true spirit of Malaysia - Truly Asia! Being a multi-racial and multi-cultural country, Malaysia is also a food haven with an extensive array of mouth-watering local and international cuisines, so I urge you to explore and indulge yourselves in the best of culinary experience served in the ambience and comfort of a dazzling variety of restaurants and rating spots around town while visiting for business. In all, I am sure you will find Malaysia a country that is spectacular and magical in every sense of the word."

YB DATO' SRI LIOW TIONG LAI
Minister of Health

"Over the years, Malaysia's food and beverage industry has grown from strength to strength with great awareness and emphasis on high quality production on par with international standards. The number of food manufacturers in Malaysia achieving global recognized standards such as ISO9000, Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Good Hygienic Practice (GHP) etc has been in an upward trend.
This effort that will confer added competitive advantages should be continued to allow further penetration into the global food market. It is my hope that through events such as MIFB, food industry players in Malaysia can learn from the international participants."

YB DATO' SRI ISMAIL SABRI BIN YAAKOB
Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerisme

"In this time of concern over the global economic slowdown, the organisation of events such as this will definitely help promote and enhance the image of Malaysian-made products, while forging a means of boosting the trade of the food industry domestically; a multi-billion ringgit sector which directly affects all consumers. Placed on such an international platform, the inter competition during the fair will also spawn competitive pricing. In line with the Ministry's mega "Buy Malaysian Goods Campaign", it is my hope that Malaysian food producers and manufacturers can make full use of this opportunity to showcase Malaysia's stance to committed value and quality for the best food and beverage products to the world."
